74% Reduction in Energy Use through Deep Retrofit

A Grade II listed building in Manchester undertook a deep retrofit after sitting vacant for four years, achieving a substantial energy reduction while enhancing tenant appeal and rental value.

Due to its poor energy inefficiency, the building was at significant risk of becoming a stranded asset. A Life Carbon Assessment concluded that a deep retrofit would be the most carbon efficient solution, which achieved:

  • 74% reduction in Energy Use Intensity (EUI)
  • Switch to Hybrid Variable Refrigerant Flow (HVRF) and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
  • Increased rental value

Phased Light and Deep Retrofit for Mixed-Use Scheme

A mixed-use development in Central London implemented a phased retrofit approach to balance tenant needs with sustainability goals.

The building was originally designed with TV studios at ground level in double-height spaces, however, it now consists of retail spaces and a cinema between the basement and ground floor, with ten storeys of offices above.
